RAVEN -> Don't screw up Q4 CTF like Q3 CTF (what a joke)

Above all of my requests below, I have but one KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. Q2 CTF was simple, fun, and easy to pickup, do not complicate Q4 CTF or it will fail. Remember, they key point here is game play, which is what made Q2 CTF.

#1, Grappling hook, this is a MUST for Q4 CTF to survive, no questions asked. It would be nice to have just like the original, the grapple was a gun, had to switch to it. Make it a server option to use the hands free so Expert CTF players are also satisfied.

#2, Runes, all 4 runes must be present, no more, no less. Do not let them expire like in Q3, this increases aggressive game play. Amplifier: does 4x damage, Accel: run/shoot faster, Shield: deflect gunshots and some splash damage, Regeneration: Health and armor rejuvenates at slow rate. Those 4 need to be in there, and spawn at spawn points just like q2.

#3, Water, do not let us see in the water. Why? Flag carriers can escape that way, also, creates better game play when you can't see who you’re shooting at

#4, Jumping, one of the most important parts. When strafing left and right and jumping, you would move faster through the level. Also, combine this with the grapple and you move even faster. Flag carriers got real good at this, 'tweaked' their skills so to say, made the game crazy fun. Also, when jumping on ramps, pressing the jump button a lot would propel you faster. This brings up the point of rocket speeds, you could actually out-travel a rocket, that needs to be sped up.

#5, Movement, make the game move just a tad, a very small tad, faster than Q2. After that, slow the rocket launcher ROF down just a tad compared to Q3. There is a medium between Q2 and Q3, that is where the bliss will be for Q4 CTF.

#6, Rail gun, don't make it look like colorful, revert back to the good ole says, white smoke center, blue spirals on the outside.

#7, Chain gun, where is it? Bring it back! Rotary, slow spin up time, but when it goes, it shreds.

#8, Quad Damage, respawn just like in Q2, not at random, but by a set amount, this creates great strategic game play for flag carriers and hunters. Also combined with Amplifier rune, 8x damage is acquired.

#9, Power Shield, bring this back and make it a little bit stronger. If I have to go find power cells, I’d like it to help me out a bit more.

#10, Blaster gun, bring it back! This POS gun was a glorified flare gun, yet it lit dark hallways, and it was fun to get free frags.

#11, the maps! Have Team 3 re-do all the maps for Q4, essentially keeping them the same, except maybe lighting and details.

#12, BRING BACK Cacophony . Publius . Myrkul . asylum - Simply the best map ever made for Q2 CTF.

Those channels are empty. Q2CTFers are hardly are ever around. I miss the good ol' days I don't even know why Q2CTF even died. Work.. life. That's what i'm up to this summer. How bout yourself?

You say to KISS, but honestly grapples and runes allow for more complexity. In fact I'd say everything you suggested takes away from the simplicity. I agree with the idea of KISS, but grapples take the skill of flag runners and strafe jumping out of the equation. I would like the most simple game they could possibly make.

Just give me weapons and good physics. Put the flag somewhere the gameplay will take care of the rest. Let the people make mods for the grapple games and whatnot.

Erm

There's a difference between regular CTF and threewave CTF

Q3's ctf was straight capture the flag support and it worked for what it did.

I agree with the rest, though, the grapple should included.[/i]

i agree completely, except that poweramp is 2x damage, not 4x, definitely do not change it to 4x, as it will render quad useless.

quake 3 ctf ruined ctf for me, it was death match with flags and that's about it. i ended up switching to rocket arena 3, which i've played for 5 years now ... (apart from the occasional revival of quake 2 ctf because a lot of us don't want to let it go)

oh and i'm one of the attackers that learnt to use grapple, so i want it back for sure ... it's extremely handy on public servers, giving you the ability to run captures in on your own without such need for team mates to back you up at every corner. and it makes for even greater team play when you do have people to back you up.

need:
- grapple
- slope/ramp jumping
- techs (runes)
- quad and powershield respawns every 1 minute
- chaingun
- flags that look like flags and strap diagonally across the player's back

get rid of:
nailgun - why do we need this gun when we have the hyperblaster?

(when you make a game, look at the aiming methods needed for the guns and don't double up like so many tend to. quake 3 weapons are perfect because they each have a use of their own)

I think we can do without a Chaingun, especially since everyone, their brother, their sister, their uncle, their aunt, and their 1st/2nd/3rd/4th cousin has it in their game as the Minigun/Chaingun. Though the Nailgun is more about strategy than it is a weapon it seems, as it can be used for effective climbing from what I've read, whereas the hyperblaster is...not so effective, which looks rather interesting, the Grapple...just my opinion, no, but many people would like it back, I hated it in the brief time I experienced gameplay with it.

i'm really hoping that CTF will be almost as popular as 1v1 will be. we as quakers need some more team competition back!
... oct12 is so far from now, sadly.

Even if the grapple was an option included for servers to turn on/off would be great. At least it'd be included as a part of the actual release and considered official gameplay.

So is threewave still alive and well?

I haven't been around since the Quake 1 (I think it was Quake 1?)/Threewave CTF days. We had the grappling hook, 3dfx video cards, and eventually runes. In the beginning we used the levels that came with the game, but later they came out with levels specifically for CTF (usually mirror images on both sides), although I actually prefered the traditional maps.

I really miss it and I'm kind of confused what happened after I became busy and stopped playing.

#quake2ctf on ETG if you guys wanna keep in touch, slasher, sherly, crow, myself, legend, bishop, rusty and a few others still keep in touch and play q2ctf almost every day, we're all picking up q4 tho and starting to play it
