Quake4 does not display after launch-only sound
This is a new installation under Win XP pro 32bit. When I click on the Quake4 icon, I briefly get the splash screen in the center of my desktop, and then the desktop gets brighter with a shift in color to a yellowish/light greenish hue, right after the splash screen disappears.
The sound of the heartbeat can be heard, then the rain, and then the sound of the crows flying away( I've had this game installed on my previous machine). There is no mouse cursor, so I have to hit ctrl-alt-del and then select end task. At this point, the colors of the desktop return to normal.
My previous machine was an Opteron170 with 2 gigs of ram and an ATI HD3870 video card. This machine is a Core I7 with 6 gigs of ram and an ATI HD4890. The display is and was with the old machine-a Gateway 24" whose native resolution is 1920x1200.
About the only other difference is that I used AVG 9.0, Adaware, SpywareBlaster with the old machine. I did have them installed on this one, but then Comcast offered Norton as a freebie, so I uninstalled the 3 others, and have been using Norton for the past week. It is only yesterday evening that I first installed Quake4. I have changed resolutions of my screen, dropping from 1920x1200 to 1024x768, in stages. None made any difference.
I uninstalled and reinstalled, this time I chose to not install punk killer(?) and also did not choose to install Direct X 9.0 as I already have it with this card.
The video drivers are current, windows is up to date.
This computer is dual boot and has Win7Ultimate 64bit on another harddrive.
The other games I have installed are Halo, Halo2, the HALF LIFE2 series.
They all play just fine.
Thanks for your attention.
